Compressed Air System
COMPRESSED AIR Compressed Air is a versatile source of power to operate machines and tools, medium for instrumentation and breathing source for various processes. It finds vast application in almost all types of industries. While undertaking design & selection of compressed air system, proper care should be taken to provide clean & dry compressed air. COMPRESSED AIR CONTAMINANTS When a compressor intakes atmospheric air for compression, it also sucks in various atmospheric contaminants like dust, water vapours etc. In the compressor, oil and compressor wear particles are also added to air. Compressed air from compressor besides having above contaminants contains condensed water due to effect of compression. For efficient performance of any pneumatic system, this contaminant should be removed, otherwise, they cause increased maintenance costs, production delays & product rejects.
BENEFITS OF CONTAMINANT REMOVAL
SYSTEM SELECTION
Components & system for making compressed air clean & dry should be determined by the end use of compressed air. The degree of contaminant removal has a cost component. A proper selection considers optimized selection taking into account degree of cleanliness required and its cost. For example a vast majority of applications require moisture removal only to an extent of "no condensation taking place in pipelines, instruments and tools". This requirement is fulfilled by a pressure dew point of +2°C to +10° C. The best dryer to be used for such system should be a refrigerated type as it is cheaper considering its capital and operating costs. However if some application demands much lower pressure dew point, dessicant type dryer should be considered
